A todos nos gusta que sepan quienes somos en nuestros trabajos. Y no me refiero al chico o chica popular, sino más bien que cuando la gente escuche nuestro nombre sepa de quién hablan y tengan algo bueno que decir. 

Todos tenemos un poco de vanidad, y a nadie le gusta -o casi nadie- ser la persona que todos evitan o el que nadie conoce. Pero a veces, sin darnos cuenta, nos creamos una reputación que no es necesariamente la que quisiéramos. Muchas veces hacemos cosas de forma inconsciente que afectan nuestra imagen, y en la mayoría de los casos son actitudes o hábitos que hemos desarrollado con el tiempo y que no reparamos en reconocer o que creemos no son tan importantes. 

TU CREDIBILIDAD ES LA BASE DE TU IMAGEN

Una de las cosas más importantes que podemos tener es nuestra credibilidad. Esta nos ayuda a tener una imagen donde la gente nos vea como alguien con quien se puede contar y que tenemos una palabra en la que se puede confiar. Sin embargo, no siempre la cuidamos como deberíamos.

En mis años de carrera profesional he tenido la dicha de poder trabajar en distintos países, con culturas y maneras de pensar diferentes; y a pesar de esas diferencias culturales, e independientemente de cuál sea la posición o clase social, uno de los valores más importantes es la credibilidad de una persona. Y gracias a esta oportunidad he podido observar el comportamiento de las personas en diferentes ambientes laborales, lo que me ha ayudado a identificar algunos hábitos y actitudes que tenemos en común y que destruyen la credibilidad de las personas.

Estas actitudes son en su mayoría cosas que hacemos sin darnos cuenta, lo que hace más difícil evitarlas. Por eso hoy quiero dejarte esos hábitos para que evalúes si tienes alguno y así ayudarte a evitar que dañes tu propia credibilidad.

Prometer algo y no cumplir

Esta es en mi opinión una de las actitudes que más afecta tu credibilidad. Nunca prometas algo que no puedas cumplir. Muchas veces lo hacemos por tratar de quedar bien, pero cuando lo haces pones tu nombre en juego, y no cumplir hace que los demás pierdan confianza en ti y sobre todo en tu palabra. Y si algún imprevisto pone en compromiso lo que prometiste (porque la vida tiene imprevistos que no se pueden controlar) avisa a la persona con tiempo y entiende cómo arreglar, por ejemplo, una nueva fecha de entrega.

Tener un criterio para cuando estás con ‘los jefes’ y otro cuando estás con los demás

Ser alguien con jefes para impresionarlos y ser otra persona con el resto es algo que afecta no solo tu credibilidad sino tu carrera. Puede que sientas que te ayuda a ganarte la opinión de los jefes, pero cuando tu doble actitud comience a ser evidente va a jugar en tu contra. Y tu equipo, que te aseguro lo ve, va a perder la confianza y el respeto hacia ti. 

Disculparte constantemente

Hay situaciones en las que es necesario disculparse: cuando hacemos algo que no está bien o no cumplidos con algo que hemos prometido. Pero muchas veces caemos en el disculparnos por todo, incluso por cosas por las que no es necesario. Por ejemplo, alguien te quiere poner una reunión y ya tienes una a esa misma hora, ¿qué es lo típico que decimos? ‘Disculpa, pero es que ya tengo una reunión agendada a esa hora’. La verdad es que no tienes que disculparte por ya tener una junta agendada, no es algo que necesariamente depende de ti. Disculparte a cada momento afecta tu credibilidad y además te hace ver como una persona insegura. Comienza a disculparte por las cosas que realmente lo ameriten. 

Interrumpir a las personas cuando hablan

No solo oigas sino escucha con atención a quien te está hablando. Incluso si no estás de acuerdo, deja que exprese su idea y espera el momento para hablar. Siendo sinceros, a nadie le gusta que lo interrumpan mientras habla.  

No ser agradecido

‘Gracias’ no es exclusivo para cuando recibes algo de alguien. Si ves que alguien de tu equipo hizo un buen trabajo o ayudó a que algún proyecto se completara, agradécele por el esfuerzo y la ayuda. Ser agradecido no es solo para cuando alguien hace algo por ti. 

Dejar todo para última hora

Correr para entregar algo afecta tu credibilidad y además te hace ver como alguien desorganizado. Trabajar o hacer las cosas en modo crisis en lugar de planificar con tiempo y anticipación es uno de los peores enemigos de tu reputación. 

Hablar mal de otras personas cuando no están presentes

Además de verse mal, la gente puede preguntarse si tú haces lo mismo cuando ellos no están. Si tienes algún feedback que dar a alguien, es a esa persona a quien se lo tienes que dar, no a los demás. 

Tomar crédito por el trabajo de otros

Esto lo he visto muchísimo, en todos los niveles de la escalera corporativa, y no hay nada más desalentador. Robar ideas o el trabajo de otros y presentarlo como si fuese tuyo es algo que no solo mata tu credibilidad sino que es antiprofesional y poco ético. Da honor a quien honor merece: si eres tú quien presenta los resultados y las personas involucradas no pueden estar, menciónalos y dales crédito por sus ideas y esfuerzo. Así demuestras que eres alguien ético y además habla de tus capacidades de liderazgo.

CUIDA TU REPUTACIÓN

Estas actitudes son en su mayoría cosas que hacemos sin darnos cuenta, lo que hace difícil ver por nosotros mismos si las tenemos o no. Para ayudarte a que sea más sencillo el identificar si tienes alguna de estas actitudes considera estos 3 pasos:

  1. Comienza a prestar atención a tus actitudes en tu día a día.
  2. Cuando identifiques alguna actitud que esté afectando tu credibilidad, recuerda la situación y anticipa la próxima vez que pases por una situación similar.
  3. Y lo más importante de todo, hazte esta pregunta: ¿mis acciones van en línea con lo que digo?

Una de las herramientas más poderosas que puedes tener para alcanzar lo que quieres es tener consciencia de ti mismo. Pero no sirve de nada engañarte, necesitas ser honesto contigo mismo.

Tu credibilidad es algo que cuenta en todas las facetas de tu vida, así que busca siempre ser una persona con una buena reputación tanto en tu vida profesional como personal. 

Si conoces a alguien que está dañando su credibilidad compártele este artículo para ayudarle a que pueda identificar alguna actitud que esté tomando de manera inconsciente y pueda eliminarla. A veces necesitamos que otros no ayuden un poco para abrir los ojos.

    My programmer is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP.
    I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses.
    But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using WordPress on a number of websites for about a year and
    am anxious about switching to another platform. I have heard great things about blogengine.net.
    Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress posts into it?
    Any kind of help would be really appreciated!
