La imagen que tenemos de nosotros mismos, o imagen propia, tiene una gran influencia en como nos desenvolvemos en nuestras vidas, y puede definirse como la percepción que uno tiene de si mismo. Esa imagen la vamos construyendo con el pasar del tiempo y en muchas ocasiones ni siquiera estamos totalmente conscientes que lo estamos haciendo.

El problema con la imagen propia es que tiene dos caras: una cuando la persona tiene una imagen propia positiva, lo que le da confianza en lo que ve y hace; y otra cuando la persona tiene una imagen negativa, haciendo que la persona dude de sí misma y sus capacidades.

DESCUBRE EL IMPACTO DE UNA IMAGEN PROPIA POSITIVA

La imagen propia está basada en cómo te percibes tú mismo, pero también tiene un componente externo, que es la proyección de tu imagen hacia los demás. Es por esto que es sumamente importante cultivar una imagen propia positiva. Una imagen positiva de ti mismo no solo te ayuda a mejorar la confianza que tienes en ti mismo sino que tiene un efecto y enriquece las vidas de las personas que están a tu alrededor.

Pero no confundas el que tenga un efecto en aquellos a tu alrededor con hacerlo por los que están a tu alrededor (que es un error que muchísima gente comete). Trabajar en tu imagen propia es para ti, para realzar quien eres y trabajar por lo que quieres conseguir… y lo más importante para sentirte bien contigo mismo. Si tu no crees en ti y no te gustas, ¿cómo esperas que los demás lo hagan?

HAZLO POR TI Y PARA TI

Como te dije, lo más importante es que te sientas a gusto contigo, y para esto tienes que enfocarte en ti y escucharte solo a ti. Tu eres el único que sabe lo que realmente quieres y que te gusta.

Y algo que muchos no entienden pero que es sumamente importante: la imagen propia no se trata nada más de tu imagen física sino que tiene también un componente psicológico o mental, donde entran en juego tu moral y capacidades intelectuales y personales.

Para ayudarte a trabajar en tu imagen propia quiero dejarte algunos consejos que me han ayudado a mí y con las que he ayudado a otras personas a desarrollar una imagen propia positiva, para que los pongas en práctica. ¡Toma nota!

Cuídate y ponte cariño

Lo primero para sentirte bien contigo mismo y tener una imagen positiva de ti es cuidarte. Desarrolla una rutina de cuidado personal si no la tienes, una que hagas en la mañana al levantarte y otra por la noche antes de acostarte. Vístete a gusto, utiliza la ropa que usas para expresar quién eres (nuestra vestimenta tiene un poder de comunicación no verbal extremadamente poderoso). Cuida el cómo te ves para que cuando te veas en el espejo te guste a quien estás viendo.

Ejercítate regularmente

El realizar una actividad física te ayuda a mantener tu cuerpo activo pero sobre todo sano y joven. No es necesario ir al gimnasio si no te gusta, ni pasar horas haciendo ejercicios. La idea no es convertirte en Hulk o la Mujer Maravilla, es simplemente llevar una vida sana y tener una imagen saludable. Con 10-15 minutos que inviertas de manera consistente es suficiente.

Controla tu dieta

Lo que comes tienes un efecto gigante en cómo te ves. Hacer dieta, a pesar de lo que mucha gente piensa, no es sinónimo de comer menos o de restringirte de ciertos alimentos; se trata de comer bien, balanceado, sin excesos. A menos que tengas alguna condición médica, puedes comer lo que quieras siempre y cuando lo hagas de manera comedida, sin abusar. Incluye vegetales en tu dieta y mantente hidratado constantemente durante el día. Cuida tu dieta y verás como tú imagen mejora significativamente.

Cuida tus horas de sueño

Descansar tu cuerpo y tu mente es indispensable para tu bienestar, y el dormir es el momento de ese descanso. Para estar a tope necesitas descansar y recuperar energías, así que no sacrifiques ni comprometas tu tiempo de sueño. Te lo vas a agradecer con el tiempo.

Siempre aprende algo nuevo

Recuerda que tu imagen propia no se trata únicamente del aspecto físico, sino también mental. Busca siempre adquirir algún conocimiento nuevo, mejorar alguna habilidad o desarrollar una nueva que te ayude a mejorar cada día y que te acerque a tus metas y sueños. Créeme, sentir que eres mejor que ayer es un sentimiento increíblemente satisfactorio, que además te ayuda a tener más confianza en ti mismo y poder proyectar una imagen de seguridad, no solo en tu vida profesional sino también personal. Recuerda que tu única competencia en la vida eres tu mismo.

Ejercita tu mente

Así como tener un cuerpo activo te ayuda a mantenerlo sano y joven, mantener una mente activa te ayuda a mantenerla sana y joven también. Y no me refiero a que tienes que hacer cálculos matemáticos o de física al nivel Einstein o Newton; con actividades sencillas como leer, rompecabezas o juegos tipo crucigramas o sudoku está perfecto. Cualquier actividad que te guste funciona, lo importante es poner tu mente en ‘movimiento’.

Ten claros y siempre presentes tus principios y valores

Nuestros principios y valores definen y rigen nuestro comportamiento y son únicos para cada persona. Así que siempre actúa en consonancia con tus creencias y principios, y ten un criterio claro al momento de tomar tus decisiones basado en tus valores. Que tus acciones vayan en línea con tu palabra es una cualidad que se ha perdido con el tiempo y que pocos tienen hoy en día.

¡COMIENZA HOY!

Te invito a que comiences hoy mismo. Comienza a cuidar de ti y a trabajar en tu imagen desde esta misma noche. El cambio no va a llegar de la noche a la mañana; como todo en la vida requiere que te comprometas y que le pongas dedicación…. pero sobre todo paciencia, así que no decaigas por no ver resultados inmediatos. Eso sí, te aseguro que si mantienes el curso y conviertes esto en un hábito, vas a ser capaz de conseguir lo que quieras en la vida.

El tener una imagen propia positiva y vivirla cada día va a proyectar una imagen al mundo de seguridad y confianza. Pero lo más importante es que cada mañana cuando te veas en el espejo te sientas orgulloso/a de a quien estás viendo y te sientas inspirado/a por esa persona que ves. Está en ti ser quien marca la pauta en tu vida o ir navegando al ritmo de la marea de la vida.
