Tú, así como muchas otras personas, tienes metas y sueños que quieres alcanzar, y muchísima gente puede llegar a compartir la misma aspiración. Sin embargo, lo que te impulsa a ti a trabajar por tus metas es distinto a lo que impulsa a los demás, tus razones son distintas a las que otros pueden tener para la misma meta. Entonces, ¿por qué si la meta es la misma las razones que inspiran a la gente a trabajar por ella son distintas?
Las razones que te mueven a ti puede que sean totalmente irrelevantes para otros, y eso es porque lo que te motiva e inspira a trabajar por lo que quieres es tan personal como tu comida favorita o la música que más te gusta. Y esas razones, esa fuerza dinámica que te empuja hacia tus sueños y que se nutre de lo que tu quieres, se llama motivación.
La motivación, como la palabra lo indica, requiere de motivos. Y esos motivos tienen principalmente dos factores: externos e internos. Los externos son aquellos que no dependen directamente de ti sino del ambiente en donde te desenvuelves (como tu trabajo), mientras que los internos son aquellos que si dependen únicamente de ti y se basan en tus metas y objetivos. Los factores externos son importantes y deberían estar no solo presentes sino claros por parte de la organización donde trabajas.
Pero los factores más importantes y críticos son los internos. Cuando dejas que tu motivación la dominen los factores externos dependes de lo que tu entorno ofrezca para mantenerte inspirado y lo que los demás determinen para ti. Así que marca tú la pauta y dirección de tus metas y sueños, y no dejes que los factores externos destruyan tu motivación.
La motivación se basa principalmente en nuestras necesidades como individuos, las cuales varían de persona a persona. Sin embargo, hay necesidades básicas que todos tenemos a la hora de determinar cuales son los motivos y razones que nos inspiran a trabajar por nuestras metas. Hay muchísimas teorías acerca de las necesidades individuales que afectan la motivación, pero la más acertada -en mi opinión- y que he visto que aplica en cada persona que he ayudado o con la que he conversado acerca de motivación, es la Teoría de Jerarquía de Clayton Alderfer (o teoría ERC). Esta teoría establece que las personas tienen tres grupos de necesidades básicas:
- de Existencia – Se basan en la persona que eres y quien quieres ser.
- de Relación – Se basan en tus interacciones con otras personas: apoyo emocional, reconocimiento y sentido de pertenencia a un grupo específico.
- de Crecimiento – Se basan en tu desarrollo y crecimiento personal y/o profesional.
Estas necesidades pueden coexistir simultáneamente o estar presentes de manera individual. Lo importante es que identifiques cuál de esas necesidades te motivan a trazarte metas y trabajar por ellas.
Ya tienes claro que los factores internos son los más importantes para tu motivación y que tu motivación se basa en necesidades básicas que tienes como individuo. Pero quiero dejarte 3 consejos prácticos que me han ayudado a mí y a todas las personas a las que he ayudado a mantener su motivación en el tiempo:
- ¡CREE EN TI! El primer paso para motivarte es creer en ti mismo, en que si puedes alcanzar cualquier meta que te propongas y que todos tus sueños son alcanzables.
- TEN TUS MOTIVOS Y METAS CLARAS. Hay días en que no tienes ánimos, que no provoca hacer nada, pero es en esos días donde tienes que buscar y encontrar las fuerzas y enfocarte en los motivos que te marcan el camino hacia tus metas. A veces enfocarnos en el camino sin tener la meta presente -y clara- solo te nubla la perspectiva.
- VISUALIZA TU FUTURO. El poder de la visualización es increíble. Pero no quiero que visualices solo tus metas sino que quiero que te veas viviendo la vida que quieres.
Practica estos consejos y cada vez que sientas que estás perdiendo motivación o inspiración recuerda que tú eres quien maneja tu motivación y que tu mayor motivador eres TÚ. Enfócate en tus metas, vive tu futuro en tu mente y confía en tu potencial y tus capacidades, y verás que motivarte es más sencillo de lo que parece.
