Para lograr alcanzar tus sueños tienes que trabajar por ellos, no exista otra fórmula. Pero eso no significa que tienes que estar en modo trabajo 24/7. Nuestros cuerpos no están diseñados para trabajar sin descanso, y cuando lo hacemos trabajamos por encima de sus capacidades y el agotamiento comienza a hacer efecto en nosotros. Y no es solo acerca del agotamiento físico, sino mental también. Nuestro cerebro -aunque en ocasiones así nos parezca- no es una maquina y se fatiga, y cuando está cansado no funciona al máximo de sus capacidades… ¿alguna vez has podido pensar con total claridad cuando te sientes cansado?
Con los avances de hoy es más sencillo, ¿no?
La verdad es que aunque suene tan lógico la realidad es otra. El gran problema está en que el ritmo de vida actual es frenético, con una cantidad de información excesiva y con una demanda de tu tiempo que requiere de tu atención todo el día a toda hora. Pero es necesario que te des un respiro de lo que está pasando a tu alrededor y te ‘desenchufes’ de vez en cuando.
Tu mente necesita descansar para poder recuperar energías. Seguramente habrás escuchado que con el tiempo que dedicas a dormir es suficiente y que el resto es para trabajar. Y aunque el tiempo de sueño te ayuda a recargar las energías y recuperarte del desgaste diario (tanto físico como mental), también necesitas momentos de tranquilidad en tu día alejados de todo lo que llega a tu plato y pasa a tu alrededor. Todo el estrés que se acumula a medida que tu día avanza acelera tu agotamiento y cansancio mental. Por esto es que oficinas como Google tienen espacios de esparcimiento, y cada vez vemos más oficinas con espacios dedicados al descanso y recreación de sus empleados.
¿Y por qué vemos está tendencia en crecimiento cada vez más?
Para poder generar nuevas ideas, soluciones a problemas y ser creativos tu mente necesita estar en un nivel de energía óptimo, pero en el mundo moderno no es tan sencillo conseguirlo. Vas a encontrar muchos consejos acerca de este tema particular: haz tu tarea más importante a primera hora de la mañana, o tus tareas de creatividad debes hacerlas en la mañana cuando tu mente está fresca. Y la verdad es que estas técnicas funcionan, pero son generales y no toman en cuenta que todos somos diferentes y tenemos nuestro propio ‘ritmo’. Por ejemplo, mi tiempo de mayor creatividad y concentración es durante la tarde en lugar de las mañanas, por lo que mis tareas importantes y que requieren de mi creatividad las realizo después del almuerzo. Lo importante es que experimentes para que consigas lo que te funcione a ti.
La clave es que tomes descansos durante el día y te des tiempo para despejar tu mente de todo el estrés y así recuperar tus energías y foco. Y para ayudarte quiero compartir contigo algunas prácticas que me han servido enormemente a administrar mi energía durante mis días y con las que también he podido ayudar a otras personas. Aquí te las dejo:
Toma pequeños descansos entre actividades
Nuestra concentración va disminuyendo a medida que pasa el tiempo, y llega un momento en el que la perdemos por completo. Pero un descanso breve entre las tareas que estés haciendo te va a ayudar a recuperarla. Particularmente yo tomo 5 minutos entre actividades. Y algo que comencé a implementar desde hace un par de semanas y que me ha ayudado muchísimo es hacer estiramientos sencillos en mi puesto de trabajo.
Incluye además descansos más largos durante el día
Unos minutos entre tareas te ayudan a recuperar tu concentración, pero también necesitas liberar tu mente y darle un descanso para oxigenarla un poco. Aquí una pausa de 15 minutos que tomes te ayudará a recuperar suficiente energía para seguir rindiendo durante el día. ¿Cuándo? te recomiendo que tomes una durante la mañana y otra durante la tarde.
Dedica tiempo a solo pensar
Es cierto que tienes reportes por hacer, reuniones que atender y resultados a presentar, ¿pero dónde queda el tiempo para pensar? Con el ritmo de vida corporativo de hoy (más por hacer y menos tiempo para hacerlo) puedes llegar a sentir que no tienes el tiempo, pero para generar nuevas ideas, encontrar soluciones a problemas o generar estrategias exitosas necesitas tiempo de calidad precisamente para eso, así que dedica un par de horas a la semana a solo pensar. A mí me gusta hacerlo con una caminata fuera de la oficina (si el clima me lo permite) para además salir del encierro diario. Inténtalo esta semana, verás lo bien que te vas a sentir. Eso sí, planifícalo en tu calendario y así evitaras que otros usen ese tiempo….. recuerda que tú eres el dueño de tu tiempo.
Pero hoy no tengo ánimos de hacer nada, ¿qué hago?
Vas a tener momentos, incluso días, en que no vas a tener la motivación ni las ganas que normalmente tienes, bien sea por cansancio o tu estado de ánimo. Pero no te sientas culpable, todos somos humanos y hemos pasado por eso. Pero cuando te sientas así -y si no tienes ninguna urgencia que te lo impida- tomate el tiempo que necesites para descansar y relajarte. Así que si sientes que necesitas tomarte un día de descanso tómalo y recupérate.
Al final del día el objetivo es que te desconectes del ritmo desenfrenado que puede llegar a agobiarte y te recargues constantemente para que puedas desempeñarte a tu máximo potencial y de manera consistente.
Tomate el tiempo de aplicar estas prácticas en tus días y adáptalas a tu ritmo, recuerda que todos somos distintos. Y comparte el artículo de hoy con tus familiares, amistades y conocidos para así poder ayudar a otros…. no sabes a quien podrías estar ayudando hoy para mejorar su mañana.
