Hace un par de días estaba viendo un documental sobre Michael Jordan (sí, soy bastante fanático del deporte) y uno de los mensajes que más me llegó, y que fue lo que me inspiró al artículo de hoy, fue que el decía que todo lo que logró se lo debe a su esfuerzo y dedicación, pero sobre todo al practicar. De hecho lo que más me llamo la atención fue su comercial maybe it’s my fault, donde dice: ‘quizás es mi culpa haberte hecho creer que fue fácil cuando no fue así, quizás te hice creer que mis momentos de gloria comenzaron en la línea de tiro libre y no en el gimnasio’. Y cuando vi ese comercial (por vez 1.375.693) me recordó una de las claves para poder alcanzar cualquier meta que te propongas: la práctica.

¿TALENTO O PRÁCTICA?
Para alcanzar lo que quieres en la vida necesitas poner dedicación y trabajo, tienes que estar en crecimiento constante, tienes que siempre buscar ser mejor de lo que eres hoy; y la mejor forma de lograrlo es practicando cada día. Si bien es cierto que el talento y los conocimientos te dan una ventaja al momento de comenzar, la práctica es lo único que te garantiza llegar. Como lo dijo Ben Lehner: ‘el trabajo duro supera al talento cuando el talento no trabajo duro’.
El talento, así como el conocimiento, si no lo practicas y trabajas no lo mejoras. Y ahí está el detalle con muchísima gente, que cuando tienen el talento y el conocimiento, se confían y creen que es suficiente con tenerlos. Los conocimientos, desde la perspectiva del aprendizaje, son estáticos, asumen que la situación es la misma y no incluyen el contexto ni los imprevistos de la vida.
El detalle está que en el mundo real, más allá de las páginas de los libros, cada situación tiene algo distinto. La vida siempre tiene algo particular que se sale de lo planeado y que hace que cada situación tenga su particularidad y su propio grado de dificultad. Y es precisamente por esto que practicar es tan importante. La mejor forma de verlo es volviendo al ámbito deportivo: los grandes deportistas, esos que logran alcanzar lo más alto en sus disciplinas, son aquellos que más dedicación le ponen a las practicas. ¿Por qué? Porque entienden la importancia que tiene practicar en el éxito. Y la verdad es que no es algo mágico o complicado, la práctica te ayuda por medio de la repetición; practican y repiten tanto lo que tienen que hacer que cuando llega el momento lo hacen de manera natural, casi instintiva.
La vida es igual, tanto a nivel profesional como personal. La única forma de crear experiencia y poder enfrentar cada situación de la vida con todo y sus imprevistos es practicando. Mientras más hagas más experto te haces. Cuando oyes que alguien es un experto que es lo que resalta, ¿la cantidad de libros y conocimientos que tiene, o la cantidad de años que tiene ejerciendo y aplicando esos conocimientos?
SEGURAMENTE LO HAS ESCUCHADO, PERO NUNCA ESTÁ DE MÁS RECORDARLO: ¡TOMA ACCIÓN!
Lo más irónico de todo, es que la mayoría de la gente falla en algo que suena tonto, pero que tiene una importancia inmensa y que pasa desapercibida: HACER. Y no quiero que me malinterpretes; aprender y adquirir conocimientos nuevos es sumamente importante y clave para mejorar, pero si no tomas acción y pones en práctica lo que estás aprendiendo nunca vas a ganar esa experiencia que necesitas. No importa cuánto leas, estudies o veas cómo se hace o cómo alguien más lo hace, si no comienzas a hacerlo tú siempre vas a estar a expensas de la incertidumbre y el factor sorpresa de cada situación. Es como leer acerca de cómo manejar o ver videos en YouTube y nunca tomar el volante y hacerlo.
Pero si comienzas a aplicar lo que vas aprendiendo, te expones y pones ‘tus manos’ en acción más experiencia vas a ganar. Habrás pasado por tantas situaciones diferentes con imprevistos distintos que vas a ser capaz de dominar cualquier situación futura. Y puede que estés pensando ¿cómo es posible dominar cualquier situación cuando cada una es distinta? Y te entiendo, porque yo también lo pensé. El practicar tus conocimientos y pasar por diferentes situaciones no hará que todas sean iguales, ni siquiera parecidas, pero si te va a ayudar a poder identificar patrones. Habrás pasado por tantas y tan diferentes que serás capaz de identificar algún patrón de situaciones pasadas que te servirá para la que estés afrontando. Y quizás no sepas la respuesta de inmediato, sobre todo al comienzo, pero te garantizo que el hilo de pensamiento que necesitas para encontrar la solución si lo vas a tener.
La fórmula para alcanzar tus sueños y la vida que quieres no es realmente mágica, sino más bien sencilla: E = C + P2. La Experiencia no es más que el Conocimiento sumado a (mucha) Práctica.
Así que de ahora en adelante sigue aprendiendo, sigue leyendo, sigue mejorando tus habilidades y destrezas; pero quiero que comiences a poner en práctica esos nuevos conocimientos desde el momento en que los vayas adquiriendo. ¿Estás aprendiendo a planificar tu tiempo? Comienza a usar las herramientas que aprendas en tu día a día, ¿estás en un curso de cómo mejorar tus presentaciones? Aplica lo que aprendes en tu próxima presentación y no esperes a terminar el curso. Mientras más practiques más experiencia vas a ganar. Recuerda que la práctica es lo que hace al maestro.
